Former NSB boss Kwabena Adu-Boahene and his wife arrived at court today without their Lawyers.
When the judge asked where they were, Adu-Boahene replied that he wasn't sure if his lead lawyer, Atta Akyea, was even in the country.
Deputy Attorney General Justice Srem-Sai stood up and stated that the state is well aware of the defense lawyers' categorical refusal to attend court during the legal vacation.
He arrogantly noted that only the Chief Justice has the power to decide if cases should proceed during the break.
The presiding judge, Justice Francis Achibonga, then gave the accused a cruel and strict ultimatum:Convince their boycotted lawyers to show up, or hire new lawyers immediately.
If they show up without lawyers on the next date, they will be forced to cross-examine the complex state witness entirely by themselves!
If they refuse or fail to do this self-representation, the judge will discharge the prosecution witness and permanently close that evidence.
All of this madness, and the case has been rushed and adjourned to August 17—giving them less than a week to find new counsel!
The state is in a desperate rush! Why?
Is it because their case is crumbling, and they want to force a guilty verdict before the public notices?
Why bully ordinary citizens to represent themselves while their lawyers are away protesting an illegal vacation sitting?
The state is actively destroying the constitutional right to a fair trial. The judiciary has officially been weaponized as a tool of raw political persecution!
