Actor Kwadwo Nkansah Lilwin has given it to Caleb Yirenkyi for the way he celebrated his late winner for Ghana against Panama at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking on Hot FM, as monitored by Ghbase News, Lilwin argued that Yirenkyi should have immediately acknowledged Brandon Thomas-Asante, whose pass created the goal.
The decisive moment came in stoppage time when Ghana launched a counterattack.
Antoine Semenyo released Thomas-Asante, who delivered a cross into the six-yard box for Yirenkyi to score the winning goal in a 1-0 victory.
Commenting on the celebration, Lilwin said Yirenkyi should have run toward Thomas-Asante after finding the net.
“Why didn't he run to Brandon and thank him? Brandon gave him that goal,” Lilwin said.
According to the actor, individual celebrations after team goals can send the wrong message to teammates who create scoring opportunities.
Lilwin argued that when players who provide assists feel overlooked, they may be more inclined to take shots themselves rather than pass in future situations.
“If players think their contribution is not being recognised, the next time they get that chance, they may decide to shoot instead of making the pass,” he said.
He maintained that Thomas-Asante's contribution was central to the goal and should have been recognised during the celebration.
“The pass was just as important as the finish. Brandon created the chance,” Lilwin stated. He asked him not to try that rubbish again.
