Tyrone Marhguy, a former student of Achimota SHS, currently studying at the University of Pennsylvania in the United States, has achieved something amazing in technology.
From his dormitory room, Tyrone built a computer brain from scratch. He designed and created a working 8-bit ALU using 36 transistors. This is the same kind of system that helps computers think and perform calculations, similar to how nano chips work inside modern devices like laptops, phones and etc...
Tyrone spent more than 250 hours working on this project, His chip can perform 19 different operations and was tested with over 1.2 million test vectors to make sure it works properly.
What makes this achievement even more special is that Tyrone had no experience in chip manufacturing. He studied every detail step by step to understand how a computer brain (CPU) works at its deepest level.
Tyrone Marhguy, whose full name is Tyrone Iras Marhguy, is a proud Ghanaian student and academic achiever. He is also well known in Ghana for winning a landmark court case against the Government of Ghana in 2023, standing up for religious freedom in education.
Phase 1 of this project is now complete. The next steps will include optimization, PCB assembly, soldering, and debugging.
This is a strong example of Ghanaian excellence on the global stage
