The Ashanti Regional Police Command earlier arrested Emmanuel Boamah Gyebi, popularly known as “Bgee,” an alleged armed robber who was later shot dead by police while reportedly attempting to escape from custody.
The deceased and two others who were killed are reported to have been members of a robbery gang operating in Obuasi, New Edubiase and Manso. On 22nd September 2026, police received intelligence of a planned robbery, leading to their arrest at a hotel in Atwima Mmim.
The suspects allegedly confessed to their crimes during questioning and disclosed that their weapons were hidden at a location in Poano. They reportedly led police officers to retrieve the weapons when unknown assailants opened fire on the team. The suspects attempted to escape but were caught in the crossfire and died at the scene.
