Accra-Kumasi Expressway to be extended to Tamale after its completion on December 2028.

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has announced plans by the government to extend the proposed Accra-Kumasi Expressway further north to Tamale after the completion of Accra-Kumasi section.

According to the Minister, the expansion forms part of the government’s broader vision to improve road connectivity across the country and create a more efficient transportation network linking the southern and northern parts of Ghana.

He indicated that one potential source of funding for the northern extension could be revenue generated through an electronic tolling system that is expected to be introduced on the expressway.

The proposed electronic tolling system is expected to generate revenue from motorists using the road, with the funds potentially channelled into the financing of major road infrastructure projects, including the planned extension.
