A pregnant woman has allegedly been assaulted by her boyfriend following a dispute over "chop money" in the Konkomba area of Accra.
According to accounts shared at the scene, the woman confronted her boyfriend after he reportedly failed to provide her with adequate financial support and allegedly gave her only GH¢60 as chop money.
During their argument a passerby noticed the confrontation and intervened to prevent the situation from escalating further.
When questioned, the man claimed he acted after his girlfriend allegedly grabbed him while he was on his way to work.
However, the woman told the bystander that the alleged assault was not an isolated incident. She claimed her boyfriend had repeatedly abused her and treated her poorly throughout their relationship. She also accused him of being unfaithful and alleged that he often spent nights away from home with another woman.
According to the woman, she had moved out on several occasions because of the alleged abuse, but her boyfriend would always persuade her to return. She further stated that the latest confrontation began after she asked him to officially visit her family to discuss their relationship. She alleged that during the argument, he struck her with his hands and head, leaving her with visible bruises.
The woman said she requested GH¢100 from her boyfriend to seek medical treatment for her injuries, but he allegedly gave her only GH¢60.
The passerby who intervened reportedly urged the man to take responsibility for the woman's condition and demanded that he provide her with GH¢1,000 to cover her medical expenses and support, warning him of consequences if he failed to do so.
