The Kotoka International Airport (KIA) is said to be renamed to Accra International Airport (AIA)
This was made known by the Majority Leader in Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, on Tuesday, February 3, 2025.
Well, the proposal, which is yet to be approved as the Transport Minister would be presenting a bill for parliamentary approval, has caused mixed reactions within the Minority caucus.
Afenyo-Markin, the Minority leader, and Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, both NPP Members of Parliament, have different opinions on the renaming of the airport
According to the Minority leader, “I don't know whether they have consulted the people of the Volta Region, because General Kotoka is from the Volta Region and many Voltarians have contributed to national development,” he said.
He added, “I'm a Voltarian, and I would be shocked that the only Voltarian whose name we have on a national asset is suddenly being removed. I do not think that the chiefs and prominent elders of the Volta Region have been consulted, and they will be happy with this name change.”
Kojo Oppong Nkrumah also said, “I think it's a good idea, and I will support it.”
