Identical triplets disclose father fled home after they were born: "He expected twins"

The three sisters opened up about their birth, which surprised not only their parents but also their neighbours, as it was a rare occurrence.

The Lagos-based identical triplets, Omolola, Omolara and Omotola Okueso, recounted their father’s reaction when they were born.

Triplets' mum goes for scan

They said that when their mother went for a scan, she was told she was carrying twins, and their father believed the results. However, she later gave birth to three babies.

“She said the scan revealed she was carrying twins. So when my father heard that my mother had given birth to triplets, he ran away. He did not come home for three days. My mother delivered us naturally, so she was exhausted and almost crawling around the house for a week to do basic tasks.
When my father returned, my paternal grandmother was furious that he had left my mum. She nearly fought him physically if not for the intervention of neighbours,” Omolola told The Punch.

How did the family react to their birth?

Despite the initial shock, the sisters said their family was ultimately overjoyed and that they were warmly welcomed by relatives.

They also noted that their mother did not have a noticeably large pregnancy bump, so no one expected triplets. The unexpected twist, however, brought immense joy.

“Our father was shocked because the scan showed two babies. That was why he was scared and left home for three days,” they added.

How old are the triplets?

The 33-year-olds said their father struggled to tell them apart, while their mother never had difficulty identifying them.

“Our mother did not have a problem identifying us, probably because she gave birth to us. But our dad found it very difficult. He could not differentiate us by our faces or even our voices.
We used to play pranks on him.One day, I wore Omolara’s clothes, and my dad called me, saying, ‘Omolara, come here.’ The three of us burst out laughing. Then he jokingly said, ‘You children are a bunch of unserious elements,’” Omotola said with a laugh.

She added that they did not intentionally wear identical clothes to confuse people, although their parents often bought them matching outfits.

What's Omotola, Omolara's professions?

Even so, many people still struggled to tell them apart, which they understood since even their father had difficulty doing so.

The triplets revealed that they share a common ambition, to build a school, as they are passionate about imparting knowledge.

Because they love education, they hope to earn university degrees and work in public schools before eventually establishing their own institution.

Omotola, now a proud mother of two, has been a primary school teacher for 13 years, while Omolara has a decade of teaching experience.
