A German tourist has lamented about the unusually high food prices in restaurants in Ghana, specifically in Accra.
In a TikTok video, the man expressed that he had only been in the country for a week, but the amount spent on food so far is unbelievable.
According to him, he has spent about GHS 13,000 on food alone, as restaurants in the city charge GHS 150 and above for a single plate of food.
In his words, "I have spent GH₵13,000 in one week. My partner and I have only been eating once a day. We don't even pay for hotels in Ghana because we are living with family. How is this 'mathemathing'? How can the people survive here?"
He added, "We don't go to premium places, they are just normal places, but they charge Ghc150 for everything. I really think we should stop going to restaurants.
Comparing Ghana prices to his home country, "In Germany, if I spend this amount of money in the restaurant, I will get better service and better quality of food. It is not to say the food in Ghanaian places doesn't taste good. It tastes good. But it is too expensive."
