This past weekend, the Cyber Security Authority Ghana, in collaboration with the Greater Accra Regional Command and the CID of the Ghana Police Service, struck a double blow against cybercriminals.
In the first operation across three locations around Sakumono, a sophisticated SIMbox operation was dismantled. Three Nigerian nationals, along with a Ghanaian landlord, were arrested for their role in the operations.
In a second operation in Vakpo in the Volta Region, a 3-member syndicate of Ghanaians engaged in impersonation, sextortion and MoMo-related fraud was busted. The syndicate had chosen to impersonate the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations - my good self - and defraud members of the public.
They have all been processed for Court and will be made to face the full rigours of the law. Once again, we sound the caution: Ghana is a hospitable nation, but be assured that if you choose to engage in cybercrime, we will track you down, arrest you, and make you face the full rigours of our legal system!
