One of the things Nana Akufo-Addo will always be remembered for is his commitment to tourism. The Year of Return, Beyond the Return and December in Ghana programmes, have been highly beneficial to our tourism sector.
From the launch in the United States in 2018, where Nana Addo encouraged people to visit Ghana, to the international media publicity, to the Full Circle Festival that brought Boris Kodjoe, Bozoma Saint John and others, and the many activities that followed, the Year of Return was a genuine success story.
The Pan African Historical Theatre Festival, PANAFEST, came with its own successes too when it started in 1992. In 2007, Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, then Minister of Tourism and Diasporan Relations, also initiated the Joseph Project which had a similar concept as Year of Return. However, the Year of Return has been the real game changer.
We can only build on this momentum and attract even more visitors and tourists. The tourism potential of IShowSpeed’s visit to Ghana is something that should not be underestimated. It wasn’t merely entertainment.
He put the spotlight on: Somebody is definitely going to visit Ghana because of Speed’s Ghana Stream. Governance is a continuum; we just need to get better.
