A strange and unexpected marriage occurred in the 1980s while Swiss Corina Hoffman was visiting Kenya.
Hofmann visited Kenya in 1986 with her partner Marco. She encountered Lketinga Leparmorijo, a Samburu warrior, there and found him immediately alluring. In order to find Lketinga, she left Marco, returned to Switzerland to sell her belongings, and then came back to Kenya in 1987. The couple got married, lived together, and had a daughter.
Hofmann relocated to her mother-in-manyatta law's (property) and acquired the Samburu woman's skills for gathering water and wood. She started a modest store in the community to sell necessities.
In addition to illnesses (mostly malaria), Hofmann also experienced marital issues. Growing paranoia and envy first time in 2004. Another visit followed, this time in the company of the daughter she had with Lketinga. The reunion is described in Afrika, meine Passion.
