Nii Nmai Akwetey Brenya III Of Akweteyman Celebrates Homowo In Accra | WATCH FULL COVERAGE OF AKWETEYMAN HOMOWO FESTIVAL 2020 | Macqathylive

 



The Akweteyman traditional area of the Okai Kwei North District has witnessed their annual celebrations of the Ga Homowo Festival marked with beautiful activities to grace the occasion on Saturday the 16th day of August, 2020. 


The theme for this year's Akweteyman Homowo celebrations was dubbed “Ab3i K33 Mi L3i Mi K33 Eko” which litrally means “ the butterfly has proclaimed it wouldn't have a word”.


The celebrations was led by the Chief of Akweteyman Nii Nmai Akwetey Brenya III and his elders headed by Nii Adotei I also known as Nii AkwashoÏ€tse whom together with the royals took to the township to sprinkle their ancestral meal known in the Ga language as Kpokpoe to seek blessings onto the land. 



This traditional activity started right from the Palace into the township and ended at the Anti Korkor drainage, where libations were poured to the gods of the land to continually render protections and guidance to the people for the betterment of the community. 


The historical event also witnessed the Chief visiting the tomb of his great grandfather Nii Abossey Akwetey II to perform some traditional rights in accordance with the tradition.


From the tomb the Chief Nii Nmai Brenya was carried on the shoulders of a servant to signify victory, for having performed the various traditional demands by their ancestors. He then returned home, back to the Palace to give thanks and praises for a successful Homowo celebrations with a traditional dance with sign languages claiming victory.

 

 


On his arrival at the his Palace he was met with loud drums which led to his traditional dance moves. To climax it all was Nii Akwashontse who updated the royals and the media on how the celebrations and how the sprinkling of the Kpokpoe went. 


He narrated saying, because of the deadly coronavirus they couldn't go far this year with the activity. They only went to the Akweteyman market area and returned to the main streets through to the boundary of Akweteyman and Achimota, the tomb of their grandfather where they performed the necessary traditional rights respectively and have returned home quickly due to the virus.


He further wished the Akweteyman traditional area and the entire Greater Accra Region a happy Homowo celebrations and called for a better celebrations when the deadly coronavirus pandemic finally disappears.

 

He also pleaded to the general public to continue to comply with the safety protocols of hand washing, usage of hand sanitizers and wearing of face musks and keeping social distancing. 




He also touched on the up coming elections, seeking for a peaceful elections come December,2020. Though he said he was a bit surprised when the Electoral Commission opened the register for new voters registration, there were some confusions at some part of the country but he was happy at Akweteyman there were no such events
