WizKid signs the biggest deal in Africa With UBA

IT'S a deal done as Nigerian pop star Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has been unveiled as the brand ambassador for United Bank for Africa (UBA).

The announcement was made during UBA Market Place 2019 event at the Transcorp hiltop hotel in Abuja on Saturday, July 27.

The leading pan-African financial services group headquartered in Nigeria, in a post on its Instagram account, said: “Introducing our newest brand ambassador Ayodeji Balogun, the one & only Starboy aka @wizkidayo. Welcome to the tribe.”
The deal, involving a musician, is believed to be one of the biggest in Africa so far.

The Starboy’s mega-deal comes days after the singer closed his partnership deal with Daily Paper for street wear for his fans.
On his part, Wizkid called the deal with UBA the “biggest deal for Africa” on social media as he announced to his fans the lastest achievement he has chalked.

He wrote: “It’s official! United Bank for Africa and Wizkid! Now let’s change the world. Biggest deal for Africa! $$$$$!!! #Jigga! #DoneDeal!”
The UBA Group and Wizkid have had a working relationship together for quite a long time which has seen the musician perform at the launch of UBA in Mali.
In February, the 29-year-old and the chairman of the United Bank for Africa, Tony Onyemaechi Elumelu posed for a photo ahead of the event.

Tony Onyemaechi Elumelu, a Nigerian economist, entrepreneur, and philanthropist owns a controlling interest in Transcorp, a publicly traded Nigerian conglomerate with interests in hospitality, agriculture, oil production and power generation.

He came into the limelight in 1997 when he led a small group of investors to take over a small, floundering commercial bank in Lagos. He turned it profitable within a few years and in 2005 he merged it with the United Bank for Africa.

That banking group now has subsidiaries in 20 African countries and in the U.S and U.K. Elumelu also owns extensive real estate across Nigeria and a minority stake in mobile telecom firm MTN Nigeria, among other assets.

Wizkid, on the other hand, is one of the most successful, richest and celebrated musicians on the continent. He has to his credit a number of awards including the BET and MTV awards.
Having introduced the Afrobeats genre to a new demographic, the artiste and record label founder has worked with other great acts such as Drake, Akon and Chris Brown.
